RD2780 Lyra™ A/V Upgrade Utility
Version 0.18.1a Resolutions Include:
Enhanced Speed Scroll for quicker navigation.
A Slideshow error when in PAL mode is now fixed.
Playback support for audible.com digital audiobooks and spoken word entertainment. (Supports Audible format 4 only)
Upgrade Procedure:
- Click HERE to download the Lyra™ A/V Upgrade Utility Executable – Version 0.18.1a.
- Connect the power adapter to the Lyra™ A/V Jukebox. WARNING: Power adapter MUST BE CONNECTED before starting the upgrade process. The Flash Upgrade process on the device will not run if the power adapter is not connected.
- Turn on the unit by pressing the ON/OFF button.
- Connect the mini-USB (small) connector to the Lyra™ A/V Jukebox, and connect the Type-A (large) connector to an available USB port on the computer. The Lyra™ A/V Jukebox will appear as a Removable Device in Windows. NOTE: 2 drive letters will appear in My Computer/Explorer associated with the Lyra™ A/V device. The first drive letter is typically associated with the hard drive of the device while the second drive letter is associated with the CompactFlash memory slot available on the device. If no memory card is present, the second drive letter will not be accessible.
- Run (double-click) the Lyra™ A/V Upgrade Utility executable file located on your computer. Any Lyra™ A/V devices already connected properly to the system will be automatically detected by the application.
- From within the Upgrade Utility, select the drive letter associated with the RD2780 device to be updated. (Press Refresh if the device was not connected before running the utility.)
- Press Update Device to copy the new firmware/application files to the appropriate location on the device. A progress meter will appear to indicate the status of the update. Press Done to dismiss the Progress Meter dialog when the device update is completed.
- Verify the power adapter is connected to the device. The Flash upgrade process on the device will not run if the power adapter is not connected.
- After the system/firmware files have been copied over to the device, properly stop the device from Windows (From the System Tray, left click on the icon ( if Win98/ME) and select the USB Mass Storage Device items associated with the Lyra™A/V Device that was just updated.)
- Disconnect the USB cable from the device. If the device is in USB Safe mode then it will auto-shutdown. Turn on the unit again by pressing the ON/OFF button. The Flash Upgrade screen will appear after the RCA Splash screen has been displayed. NOTE: If the device is not in USB Safe Mode, depending on the version of the software previously loaded on the unit, the device may auto-shutdown with a message of “Lyra app(s) were upgraded. Please reboot. Shutting down…” This is normal behavior. Turn on the unit again by pressing the ON/OFF button and the Flash upgrade Process screen will appear after the RCA Splash screen.
- From the Flash Upgrade screen, press the select key to start the Flash Upgrade process. Status text on the screen will update as each Flash region is upgraded. The device will automatically power off when the upgrade process has been completed. WARNING: DO NOT DISCONNECT THE POWER ADAPTER DURING THE UPGRADE PROCESS. Removal of the power adapter during the upgrade process may cause loss or damage of data on the device.
- Turn the unit back on by pressing the ON/OFF button. You may be required to reboot the player additional times. Please follow the on-screen prompts. The RCA splash screen will appear for several seconds and then the Main Menu screen will be displayed. The firmware/system files have been successfully upgraded on the device. NOTE: If the Splash Screen locks up and/or the Main Menu screens do not display as expected, errors may have occurred during the upgrade process.
- Display the SETUP: Lyra Info Menu to verify the Version information now reads the version number of the upgraded software.
Repeat the Upgrade Procedure for each Lyra™ A/V Jukebox device that needs to be upgraded.
Helpful Hint: Leave the Lyra™ A/V Upgrade Utility running and simply press the REFRESH button to update the list of available devices each time a different device is connected to the PC.

Audio Playlist (M3U) support enabled. From the audio navigation screen, scroll down and select “Playlists” to display all available Audio playlists stored in the AUDIO system folder. IMPORTANT NOTES: Audio playlists files must use the .M3U file extension in order to be properly recognized by the device and available for playback. Audio playlist files must be stored on the hard drive in the AUDIO system folder to be properly recognized from within Audio Navigation Mode. Audio playlists files can also be stored in sub-folders under the AUDIO system folder for easier navigation and storage of your playlist files.
Video playback position now saved when switching between TV-Out and LCD display modes.
Photos Playback Mode, Menu Banner, Goto Photos Settings menu icon now implemented. Press the Menu button during photos playback to display the Menu Banner and select the Settings icon.
Improved Embedded Audio Profiling performance when profiling directories that contain large amounts of files, audio content.
Audio Playback Mode, fixed issue with noise being heard at the end of a Windows Media audio (WMA) file during playback.
Photos Playback mode, improved photos (JPEG) rotation functionality. Invalid (garbage) vertical pixels no longer displayed after the photo is rotated.
Error message stating “Missing or Corrupted System Files” now displayed during bootup if the system files on the device are invalid, corrupted or are missing.

Photos Playback, Rotate mode enabled. Allows 90 degree incremental rotation during Photo playback. Press the Menu button during photo playback to display the Menu banner and select the rotate icon. Individual rotate preferences are stored for each photo during playback. (For global photo rotation, use the Setup, Photos menus.)
Video Playback Mode, Status Bar indicator is displayed during Fast Forward, Fast Rewind.

System File Enhancements & Fixes (v0.14.10)
Previous file size limits for individual recording sessions have been expanded! The Lyra AV Jukebox now allows Video recording sessions of up to approximately 9 hours in LP – Low mode; 7 hours in SP – Med mode and 5 hours in HQ – High mode.
Improved Fast Forward / Fast Rewind. These functions now operate smoother, with less video choppiness.
In the previous versions of firmware, video recording would occasionally stop with no explanation. This issue has been fixed.
Fast Forward / Fast Rewind would occasionally crash the device with no explanation. This issue has been fixed.

IMPORTANT NOTES
In Windows 2000, Service Pack 3 or later MUST be installed in order for the device to function properly through Windows Explorer and the available media be properly recognized as removable disks. Visit www.microsoft.com for more details on downloading Service Pack 3 (or Service Pack 4) for Windows 2000.
The RD2780 device must now be STOPPED before being disconnected from the system in all supported operating systems (Windows 98SE, Me, 2000 and XP). See the user’s guide for more details.
In the event of a low battery condition that does not allow the device to be powered up, it is required to connect the device to the supplied AC/DC power adapter to be charged for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power up device again.
The device’s internal hard drive MUST only be formatted in FAT32. Other formats may result in device failure.
Type I CompactFlash memory cards are supported by the RD2780 and will appear as a removable disk drive letter in Windows when properly inserted into the device. CompactFlash memory cards MUST be formatted in FAT16 in order to be properly detected. Other formats may result in device errors.
It is highly recommended that Audio content be copied into the AUDIO subfolder off of the root of the device. Audio files may be stored in sub-folders contained under the AUDIO system folder or off of the root of the device for easier navigation and storage of your audio content. You must profile the Audio contents of the device after transferring new files to the device.
Video content MUST be copied into the VIDEO subfolder off of the root of the device to be properly recognized by the device. Video files may be stored in sub-folders contained under the VIDEO system folder for easier navigation and storage of your video content.
Photo content MUST be copied into the PHOTOS subfolder off of the root of the device to be properly recognized by the device. Photo files may be stored in sub-folders contained under the PHOTOS system folder for easier navigation and storage of your photo content.

InstaHome
In any mode of operation, InstaHome allows you to hold down the MENU button and force the player to go
to the Top Level/Main Menu Screen.
Video Recording Mode
Record video directly from your audio/video component (TV, VCR, Camcorder) to be stored on the internal hard drive of the device. Connect your audio/video component to the Line In jack on the device. To start Video Recording mode, select Video from the Main Menu to enter Video Navigation mode. Press the RECORD button on the top of the device when you are ready to record (the Recording Mode screen appears). Press SELECT to begin recording, or highlight and select a set time to record. (Note: audio/video playback MUST be stopped in order for Video Recording Mode to be available).
Audio Recording Mode
Record audio directly from your audio component (stereo system) to be stored on the internal hard drive of the device. Connect your audio component to the Line In jack on the device. To start Audio Recording mode, select Audio from the Main Menu to enter Audio Navigation mode. Press the RECORD button on the top of the device when you are ready to record (the Recording Mode screen appears). Press SELECT to begin recording, or highlight and select a set time to record. LYRA JUKEBOX APPLICATION

Fixed issue where audio content on devices with file paths between 256 and 260 characters in length would cause the profiling process and the Lyra Jukebox application to unexpectedly quit. All paths are now limited to 256 characters in order to be properly included in the profiling process.
During the profiling process, if no audio files are available on a device, the previous profiling information will now be deleted. User must re-profile contents of the device once audio content is available.

Software Enhancements (V1.0.2.5)
Fixed issue when audio content on devices have file paths longer than the maximum length allowed by Windows. Originally, profiling process would encounter an error and the Lyra Jukebox application would unexpectedly quit. Now, if the file path exceeds the maximum length allowed by Windows, the file will not be included in the profiling process.
Fixed issue when Windows Media Audio content containing very long metadata (ID3) string field values (Artist, Album, Genre, Title) caused profiling process to encounter an error. Originally, the Lyra Jukebox application would unexpectedly quit. Now, Windows Media audio metadata field values are limited to 128 characters.
Leading/Trailing spaces now removed from Windows Media metadata (ID3) field values before being sorted during the profiling process.
Fixed issue in Update System Files where system files were not being properly updated on the device if configured as hidden.
Provides the following software features for profiling, updating and better organizing the contents of your Lyra AV Jukebox device. The Lyra Jukebox System Tray Application resides in the system tray of your desktop.
Profile Device Contents
After transferring audio content to the Lyra AV Jukebox device, the contents of the device must be profiled in order for the newly added content to appear in Audio Mode on the device. During the profiling process, supported audio content (mp3, mp3PRO, Windows Media audio files) will be sorted based on the available ID3 tag data.
TO PROFILE YOUR DEVICE’S AUDIO FILES:
Profile the active device’s contents by selecting the “Profile Device Contents…” menu item from the Lyra Jukebox System Tray Application. (Note: If more than one Lyra Jukebox device is connected to the system, you will be prompted and asked to select which driver letter is associated with the device you want to profile.)
Update System Files
Required System files for proper device functionality are stored on the hard drive of the device. These files sometimes get deleted (Ex: formatting of the hard drive) or become out of date and need to be occasionally updated.
TO UPDATE YOUR DEVICE’S SYSTEM FILES:
Select the “Update System Files…” menu item from the Lyra Jukebox System Tray Application by right clicking on the icon to update the device system files.
Once completed, your Lyra Jukebox device will have the updated the system files required for operation. (Note: If more than one Lyra Jukebox device is connected to the system, you will be prompted and asked to select which driver letter is associated with the device you want to update.)
Verify User Playlists
Finds and verifies the contents of supported playlist files that are contained in the AUDIO (m3u files), VIDEO (v3u files) and PHOTOS (j3u files) system folders off of the root of the device. Playlist files may be stored in sub-folders contained under the AUDIO, VIDEO and PHOTOS system folders as well for easier navigation and storage of multimedia content.
When the verify menu item is selected, the application will identify all available supported multimedia playlists in the specific system folders and verify the contents of each playlist.
If an entry in a playlist is not present on the device’s media, the software will display a message so you can decide what action should be taken for the invalid entry.
TO VERIFY YOUR DEVICE’S PLAYLIST FILES:
Select the “Verify User Playlists…” menu item from the Lyra Jukebox System Tray Application by right clicking on the icon to start the verification process. (Note: If more than one Lyra Jukebox device is connected to the system, you will be prompted and asked to select which driver letter is associated with the device you want to update.)
Select from the given options when invalid playlist entries are identified.
LyraSync
The LyraSync option allows you to specify specific files and/or folders to be synchronized between the PC and available Lyra Jukebox device(s). Several methods are available for syncing the specified files and/or folders between the PC and Lyra Jukebox device.
NOTE: Select the Help option from the LyraSync Options screen for more details on the available synchronization functionality.
TO CONFIGURE LYRASYNC OPTIONS AND PERFORM A SYNCHRONIZATION:
Select the “LyraSync” menu item from the Lyra Jukebox System Tray Application by right clicking on the icon to start the verification process. The LyraSync Options screen will be displayed.
Select a Lyra Jukebox device to be synced.
Specified all sets of desired files and/or folder paths to be synced between the PC and selected Lyra Jukebox device.
Select the preferred Sync Option (PC overwrites Device, Device Overwrites PC or Synchronize PC and Device).
When all options have been configured, select the “Synchronize” item to start the sync process.
